About Dr. Jon Russell

Before starting the Russell Center, Dr. Jon Russell was Director of the Division of Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery at Johns Hopkins and also directed the multidisciplinary Thyroid Tumor Center. This means that he trained other surgeons from around the world, while becoming the busiest surgeon at Johns Hopkins over the last decade. If your surgeon is discussing "minimally invasive" thyroid or parathyroid surgery with you, they have likely been trained by or attended a course led by Dr. Russell!
He is also a member of the Guidelines Committee for the American Thyroid Association, and has been involved in creating guidelines for Radiofrequency Ablation, Outpatient Thyroid Surgery, and Remote Access Thyroidectomy. He is the chair of the Technology sub-committee of the Endocrine Section of the American Head and Neck Society, and is one of only 100 Surgeons in the world (as of 2025) to be certified as an expert in Complex Thyroid/Parathyroid Surgery by the American Academy of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery.
